Joint HOTREC-EFFAT Statement on the Commission’s Short-Term Rental Initiative
In the framework of the European sectoral social dialogue, EFFAT and HOTREC, social partners in the hospitality sector have reached a joint position on the rapid expansion of short-term accommodation rentals.
Together, we represent a sector that employs around 10 million people across Europe and plays a vital role in local economies, tourism, and employment.
In recent years, short-term accommodation rentals have grown rapidly, often operating alongside traditional accommodation providers such as hotels, hostels, and other regulated establishments. While innovation and new business models can bring benefits, the current regulatory imbalance between different types of accommodation services is creating significant challenges for workers, consumers, and responsible businesses.
