On International Domestic Workers Day, EFFAT celebrates and honours all domestic workers across Europe and around the world. Every day, domestic workers provide essential care and household services to families, children, older persons, and people with disabilities. Their work is indispensable to our societies and economies, yet too often remains undervalued and insufficiently protected. Fifteen years after the adoption of ILO Convention 189, we celebrate the progress achieved thanks to the courage, determination, and collective action of domestic workers and their organisations. At the same time, we recognise that the fight for decent work, social protection, recognition, and equal rights is far from over. To mark this important day, Grace Papa, EFFAT Political Secretary and IDWF Europe Coordinator, joined the celebrations organised by domestic workers in London. The event brought together domestic workers, trade unions, allies, and advocates to celebrate the achievements of the movement and reaffirm the importance of ILO Convention 189 in securing dignity, rights, and protection for all domestic workers.
