EFFAT extends our congratulations to Christophe Hansen on his confirmation as the new European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food. We are encouraged by his expressed commitment to raising labour standards in the agro-food sector. .
As Europe has no other choice than moving toward sustainable change, we emphasize that a Green Transition is only achievable with the active involvement of workers and their trade unions. EFFAT looks forward to collaborating closely with Commissioner Hansen to promote a fair and inclusive transition that leaves no worker behind.
However, EFFAT also notes with concern the absence of a firmer stance on the Mercosur trade agreement. We will remain vigilant in our advocacy to protect European standards and support a fair approach to global trade.
EFFAT looks forward to a productive cooperation with Commissioner Hansen in the years ahead, working together to strengthen workers’ rights and sustainable practices across Europe’s agricultural and food sectors.
