At its final conference in Brussels, the EATS project (Empowering Agri-Food Chain Through Social Dialogue) showcased its comprehensive guidelines aimed at strengthening social dialogue in the agri-food sector. Led by FAI CISL, the initiative brought together a wide coalition of national and European trade unions, employers’ organizations, and research institutes, including UGT-FICA (Spain), FNSZ (Bulgaria), Agro-Sindikat (North Macedonia), FGA-CFDT (France), OBES (Greece), EFFAT, Coldiretti, Terra Viva, and SAEEPE.
The guidelines focus on key areas such as:
- Strengthening workers’ participation
- Better integration of foreign workers
- Combating abusive recruitment and outsourcing practices
- Enhancing cooperation across the agri-food supply chain
The cornerstone of these recommendations is the promotion of social dialogue and collective bargaining across all levels of the industry.
EFFAT General Secretary Kristjan Bragason opened the conference, which welcomed over 100 participants. The event highlighted the value of peer-to-peer learning and shared best practices, featuring presentations from project partners and a discussion on EU initiatives to boost social dialogue. A panel discussion with EU-level social partners, along with a presentation from the Advisory Committee on Health and Safety, underscored the ongoing efforts to improve working conditions through effective collaboration.
The project’s guidelines are available in English, Greek, Spanish, Bulgarian, French, and Macedonian.
