For the EFFAT project “Strengthening EWC’s in the EFFAT sectors to achieve a truly fair and just transition”, external expertise is required to support the EFFAT Secretariat to develop materials to support affiliates in utilising the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) for their work in transnational companies (TNCs).
Under this work, the external expert will assist the EFFAT Secretariat with the following:
- Analysis on the final impacts of the Commission’s Sustainability Omnibus on the CSDDD, and its implications for trade unions in the EFFAT sectors.
- Examine national case studies of trade union involvement in, and collective bargaining for human rights due diligence policies and their applicability at an international level.
- Consider the role of international information and consultation bodies, in facilitating dialogue on TNCs’ human rights due diligence.
- Identify best practices/structures/procedures for trade unions to be consulted as stakeholders for TNCs’ human rights due diligence strategy, including mapping, identification and assessment of human rights risks (including workers’ rights violations across supply, subcontracting chains and franchise networks), the design of individual policies and the monitoring of their implementation, decisions on the suspension and termination of business partner-ships, as well as the design of qualitative and quantitative indicators to assesses the success of due diligence actions.
- Develop specific guidance on how EFFAT trade unions can engage central management on human rights due diligence for TNCs’ subcontracting, supply chains and franchise networks.
The external expert will assist EFFAT also in disseminating the findings of the research to the Project Steering Group at its meetings (2 in total, all online) and to the broader audience at the Final conference.
