For the EFFAT project “Strengthening EWC’s in the EFFAT sectors to achieve a truly fair and just transition”, external expertise is required to support the EFFAT Secretariat to develop materials to support affiliates in their work on achieving a just transition within in transnational companies (TNCs).
Under this work, the external expert will assist the EFFAT Secretariat with the following:
- Examine national case studies of trade union involvement in, and collective bargaining over anticipation of change and just transition strategies and their applicability at an international level.
- Assessing existing Transnational company agreements on anticipation of change, just transition and management of restructuring processes, especially in view of increasing financialisation in the EFFAT sectors, building on EFFAT’s political demands and previous research on financialisation.
- Consider the role of international information and consultation bodies, in facilitating dialogue on TNCs’ just transition strategies.
- Identify best practices, as well as structures, and procedures for trade unions to be consult-ed on TNCs’ just transition strategy, including initial development tied to net-zero climate transition plans, mitigating harms on current workforce, the design of policies to transfer and upskill impacted workers, and ensuring the improvement of their working conditions.
The external expert will assist EFFAT also in disseminating the findings of the research to the Project Steering Group at its meetings (2 in total, all online) and to the broader audience at the Final conference.
