The annual meeting of the EFFAT Transnational Companies Committee is taking place in Barcelona on 1–2 October 2025.
The TNC Committee once again proves to be the main platform where EFFAT affiliates active in multinational companies, TNC/EWC Coordinators, and members of national and European Works Councils exchange experiences, coordinate actions, and strengthens solidarity and cooperation.
The programme includes:
- A training session on the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), discussed in the current context where the directive is under threat due to Omnibus and simplification efforts and attempts to weaken its ambition.
- Reports on ongoing work in transnational companies and a strategic discussion on EFFAT work.
- The presentation of the new Code of Conduct on Restructurings and a preliminary discussion on EFFAT Policy on Transnational Company Agreements.
- Preparations for the upcoming revision of the European Works Council Directive.
- A focus on our campaign on gender equality.
The meeting has also been a platform to show solidarity, reaffirming our collective support for affiliates and workers engaged in the many restructurings and struggles affecting workers in our sectors across Europe. The Committee showed support for affiliates’ fights in:
Nestlé Waters
This week in Vevey, around 150 workers mobilised against the planned sale of Nestlé Waters’ mineral water division to an unknown buyer. The future of approximately 5.500 workers is at stake. Employees demand clarity and guarantees for their employment and rights. EFFAT supports the mobilisation coordinated by the IUF.
Lieferando
NGG has organised a second warning strike in Hanover on 2 October 2025. Lieferando announced its intention to cease operations in the city and dismiss 200 workers, with more than 2000 jobs threatened nationwide. Instead of securing stable employment, the company relied on subcontractors, with serious risks for wages and safety standards. NGG demands a collective agreement that ensures real security, including for subcontracted staff.
JDE Peet’s
At the Andrézieux site in France, workers launched an indefinite strike on 25 September 2025. EFFAT affiliates FGA-CFDT and CGT demanded a general wage increase of €250 per month for all non-managerial staff, alongside full payment for strike days. These demands came against the backdrop of record company profits, large shareholder payouts, and the recent $23 billion takeover by Keurig Dr Pepper.
Eker
TEKGIDA-İŞ SENDİKASI has been in a longstanding struggle with Eker, owned by Andros. For almost a year, the union has been engaged in a legal process for its right to initiate collective bargaining with management be recognised. Proceedings are set to continue in early November. In this time, seven trade union members within the Eker branch have been dismissed, which can only be described as an anti-trade union tactic taken by management.
EFFAT expresses its full solidarity with the workers and affiliates engaged in these important struggles. Their actions inspire our discussions and strategies at our conference and reinforce our common determination to defend jobs, rights, and fair working conditions across TNCs.
